Davy Jones w/Johnny J. Blair - If I Knew (remastered 2021)

from THE PRODUCER! by Johnny J Blair "Singer at Large"

/

about

Written by Bill Chadwick and Davy Jones, this song was first made for THE MONKEES PRESENT album in 1969. That version was in a bossa nova style, but when Davy and I revisited it in 1994, we decided for a Philly-Soul/Hall & Oates meets 10cc vibe. It was mixed by John Bechdel (Ministry) and Rusty Richards (Chuckii Booker, Brian Wilson). We were working on many songs at the time, but this was the first mix that really floored us. Uma Robin Mackey calls it “sublime.”
