about

This is an outtake from FIRE. It's one of the most somber songs I've ever written (I call it "reggae noir"), It's also one of my personal favorites. I first demo'd it in a Rolling Stones "Some Girls" style, then took it into a Bowie-ish space-reggae direction. Chris Bovard was slotted to play guitar on this session but he couldn't make it, so I did it, imagining Stevie Ray Vaughn doing surf guitar with a dose of ISLANDS-era Robert Fripp. I also played the nifty Farfisa organ. The lyrics were influenced by arguments over creationism vs. evolution and the plays of Charles Williams. I'm thinking of re-cutting this song someday with a harder reggae rock beat, like Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved?"
