Johnny J Blair wrote this song in 2003. The lyrics are based on the Bible verse "The rain falls on the just and the unjust." The music was influenced by Fleetwood Mac, Roy Orbison, and Michael Roe (The 77s). Some years later, while doing this song in a share-bill concert near Boston with Sam Bowen, the song struck Sam's fancy and he recorded his own. "Sam nearly read my mind when he arranged this for full band," says Blair. "It's just the way I imagined it, and he took it to another level with real strings."
