about

This song was written straight from a dream about a romance and a baptism along Pine Creek, a scenic (and long), rambling waterway that flows from mid-state New York down into central Pennsylvania. In the dream, I saw this big turn out of happy people on a clear summer day, having a great time after the baptismal ceremonies were over. The focus was on a man and a woman visibly in love and grateful to be there.

Musically, it was inspired by Mexican gangster films, Chicano rock’n’roll, The Everly Brothers (their cover of "Lucille"), Roy Orbison, Richie Valens, Neil Diamond, & The Monkees ("Little Bit Me Little Bit You"). Speaking of Diamond/Monkees, Davy Jones used to joke that Neil Diamond just took the same song and just kept re-writing it.

The song was a staple of my live set for many years, including with Paul Farnham and The Gypsy Lizards, and the band October with Ron Davis.

A few different recordings and remixes of the song are out there, but I consider this to be the definitive take (first issued on my FIRE CD in 2000).
